Re: I'm 21 and inheriting a very large sports bar

My grandfather opened it in the 70s and it was very successful as a concert venue, sports bar and night club
In the past few years it has died down a lot, part of this because of the economy but mostly because it hasn't changed since it opened.
A couple months ago he was diagnosed with cancer and because of other medical issues there is little hope that he will live to the end of this year.

As a classically trained chef, I cannot agree with this more. The face of the establishment that the public sees will make or break you.
Food and drinks can always be fixed. Bad staff and attitude will cost you so much more.

As a guy who goes to bars all the time, I cannot agree with these guys more. Nothing makes me spend less money at a place than shitty service.

Go to the dive bars in your area. The ones that are about to go bankrupt and think why you don't want to be there. Then don't do those things.

I prefer awesome dive bars over sterile renovated places that are run by boring business people.
