Re: Is it considered bad etiquette for straights to go to a gay bar?
I had a gay friend explain this to me.
We straight folks go through life assuming the people around us are mostly straight; straight folks don't often wonder if the good looking man/woman at the bar is gay or straight before talking to him/her.
Gay people, particularly gay men, can't interact like that at straight bars. They'll either get shot down by straight people, or worse, like beat up.
The gay bar is one place where they like to feel like they can interact like everyone else without wondering if others are gay/straight.
Therefore, it's a big let down to start talking to an attractive person at the gay bar and get shot down because he/she is straight.
He also said not all gay people feel this way and that woman at a primarily men's gay bar is not as big of a deal.
