Re: Some good bar drinks?

My friend turned 21 today and we're going out to a bar tonight to celebrate, problem is I turned 21 not too long ago as well and haven't been to one myself
I believe I understand bar etiquette well enough with tipping and such, but I honestly don't know enough about the drinks themselves.

Re: Some good bar drinks?

If you are going to a bar that is a good cocktail bar, my favorites are Bourbon Sours and Sazeracs.
But only order those at bar that you expect would use fresh ingredients and not mixes, especailly for the sours.
At any generic bar, if you like sweet things, go with a whisky (American style) giner-ale.
If you like a drink that tastes like Christmas, get a gin and tonic with nice gin.

Re: Some good bar drinks?

A G&T is more of a summertime drink in my book.
I see how someone could associate the resiny notes in the gin with Christmas, but the history of the drink ties it to tropical climates--
a more palatable way to take your anti-malarial quinine.

If you want to get trashed get yourself a Long Island Ice Tea or two, they are mostly several different hard liquors mixed together and actually doesn't taste as bad as it sounds.

There's a crappy bar that my friends and I go to sometimes that has triple long islands. They come in a mini pitcher. They are delicious.
