Re: Turning 21 soon. What to know about bar etiquette and what to drink?

Hey guys. Approaching the legal drinking age. Being an underaged college student up until this point, I've basically only drank cheap beer and vodka.
I plan on going bar-hopping with some friends on my birthday. What should I know about the bar scene?
How much do I tip a bartender? Stuff like that. What drinks should I definitely try?

If you're in an establishment with one bartender, and are going to be there for 4-5 drinks, consider tipping for the night on your first drink.
I usually ask, "Are you going to be here all night?" and then tell them to keep the change from a decent sized bill.

This is good advice, but I'd advise tipping as he goes for his first night out.
It sounds like he's going to be bar-hopping anyway, and besides,
if he goes from tipping huge on the first drink to asking what's in a Jack and Coke, he's going to seem like he's trying to be a hotshot.

That. is an excellent point. Consider this good advice on future bar drinking. Not first night out.

The people that tip a dollar per drink make up for the people that don't tip at all or tip for shit.
Tonight for example, I had two different couples spend around $35. One couple did not tip a cent, the other couple tipped $15.
