Re: Where the bar cars at?

Today, I was reminded about the Metro Line Bar Cars, that commute from New Haven, CT to Grand Central in New York.
That is... the best idea ever! Instead of sitting in traffic, you can get smashed on your commute home!
Now I learn in our country of 300 mil plus people there are no others but these?

We're just afraid of people who have that sentiment.
Unless the train is taking you to your doorstep, you can see why this might not be a grand idea.

Re: Where the bar cars at?

The Amtrak Downeaster does serve liquor in the bar car as well.
I rode that train every day for most of two years. Finally switched to driving because I was tired of arriving home buzzed and $20 dollars lighter every night.

Re: Where the bar cars at?

You can buy alcohol on Amtrak trains. You can also bring it on board. But that's long distance service, mostly.
It's an issue of drunks on trains (fights, sexual assaults, etc.), the mess it would create (trash, puke, etc.), and the fact that you can't eat or drink on most commuter trains.
Also, at least from what I've seen, Americans cannot be trusted with open bars.

Re: Where the bar cars at?

All of the drawbacks you mentioned would be balanced by the extra cash it would bring in. People like booze.
