Re: Chicago Any suggestions on neighberhoods for young guys?

So my roommate and me are looking for somewhere affordable.
Preferably on the north side, this will be the first time we're moving to the city so any kind of help on where to look would help immensly.

Despite the relative cheapness compared to NY or SF, Chicago can be very expensive.
Places like Lincoln Park or Old Town cater to a very specific disposable income level.
If you're young and scraping to get by, the more "yuppie" parts of the city might be frustrating to live in.

I have a fair amount of friends who live in Humboldt Park and Bridgeport and have walked around there a lot at maybe not the safest hours of the night.
So long as you stay aware of your surroundings, aren't (too) drunk, and aren't dicking around with your phone/iPod, you're pretty much good to go.

Also, more hipsters. For aging hipsters and older gay couples, Andersonville and Edgewater. It's cheap, close to the lake, and close to great food.

Don't forget Uptown, affordable, quiet and safe if you stay north and east, close to Andersonville, my favorite neighborhood for food, right on the lake, easy access to the red line and buses.
