New Orleans restaurants on a budget?

Hello,What are some cheap eats in New Orleans?
I'm moving there and want to eat out some for my first time this August and want to start eating like a local.
I won't have a lot set-up when I first move in so I'll be eating 3 days worth of meals or so from restaurants.
Affordable options are essential (and hopefully some of the best).
I'm particularly looking forward to authentic cajun/creole dishes and I adore spice.
I'll be staying in the Garden District and intend to explore as much as the city as possible by transit
and foot. Don't want to miss anything. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Well, by district, I'd recommend some of the following. In the Garden District I would recommend:

Delta Angel
Stein's
Juan's

The streetcar will take you around pretty much almost anywhere and all the districts are easily accessible by it.

In the Warehouse District I would recommend:

Butcher
Sun Ray
Carmo
Ugly Dog BBQ
Emeril's (and they have a 3-course lunch for $20)

Pierre Misperos in the quarter is a great local spot for cheap eats. Also try
Filepes, Camilla Grill, and Cafe Dumonde. All excellent ideas.

Joey K's is good southern food, cheap too. I also recommend Juan's Flying Burrito.
They have great drink specials there too. Reginelli's also has great drink specials.
Popular with the locals too.

Definitely check Butcher. Surrey's too, and just about everything everyone else said.
