Re: Call the waiter and they'll come - only in Amsterdam or the whole Netherlands?

I've noticed this policy of waiters and waitresses in Amsterdam, and maybe in other cities, that they won't check on you, but rather
you need to call their attention if you want them to come by. Do you agree or disagree with this policy?

Well, it's a custom there, so if you don't get their attention, they won't come to check on you.

They enforce that policy out of respect for their patrons.

I'm not one to question a country's custom when it comes to restaurants, but I think that their policy tantamounts to apathy and
a violation of norms such that a customer must call the waiter if he demands service. For me that is unacceptable.

Those things happen, just deal with 'em. Can't change a country's policy just because someone disagrees.

As you said, it's the norms of the country, just takes a little getting used to it.
