Visiting NYC with friends age range of 24 thru 47

I will be in NYC from Chicago September 15th thru Spetember 18th and want to know some cool inexpensive things to do and clubs for nightlife.
Looking for things to do near MidTown and Times Square. Any suggestions??
From what I've read to get into a club I need to be in contact with a promoter to get into best clubs.
3rd trip to NYC havent seen the clublife. Suggestions?

Times Square and mid-town are tourist traps. Be prepared to head Downtown.

Best price for a drink. Rudy's 44st and 9ave. Free hot dogs and great music. Closed at 4pm. 7ft pig outside.
