What's Astoria like on 21st street, south of 30th?

So I looked at an apt. tonight on 21st Street just south of 30th Ave.
I didn't have much time to check out the businesses on 30th Ave heading towards 21st Street, but it didn't seem there was anything that special.
(I think I like the other side of 30th Ave better...on the other side of the el.)
Anyway, this apt is close enough to the 30th Ave subway that I'm considering.
I still need to explore the area...esp. heading towards the water to see what's there.
I know there's a bike path and I guess Socrates Sculpture Park is about a 10-15 minute walk.
ANyone else know the area and what options are available for food shopping?

Not a huge fan. It's all auto shops and not much of a nabe.
You aren't that far from Ravenswood there or Astoria houses. Not great.

Yeah, I wasn't so keen over how it looked there.
That said though, the apt. building is phenomenal....
nice apartments, awesome Manh skylline views and finished deck with lounge chairs, BBQs, outdoor shower..the works.
I agree...it really doesn't feel like a nabe, and the walk down that end of 30th Ave just isn't as appealing as the other side of 30th Ave.
But....it's not so far from the subway and nicer stores I suppose...and there is a bike path not too far away I guess.

I used to live at 30th rd and crescent. Not a bad area. Close enough to 30th ave shopping. There's a key food(?) and a crappy trade fair. Many great restaurants in the area too.

It'll definitely feel a bit sparse, but there are plenty of gems out there on 21st. Just rock the buses to get up and down the street!
