Re: The "dress smart" rule

Do you agree with this rule: Whether you're a local or a tourist, you must be in proper attire at all times, especially when going out.

Re: The "dress smart" rule

Unlike a number of European cities, Dublin's particularly strict when it comes to dressing up. I've read that wearing sneakers and jeans
are discouraged. I agree with some of its rules, but sometimes I find it difficult to accept at times. I'm therefore uncertain.

Re: The "dress smart" rule

It depends on the establishment. There are pubs and clubs which do not enforce a dress code.

Re: The "dress smart" rule

Well, there are indeed some clubs which don't have a dress code, I won't argue with that. But as a rule, for most of Dublin's nightclubs,
wearing pants and black shoes are a must if you want to be admitted, especially if you're a tourist. I remember a long time ago there was
someone who was refused entry to a nightclub because he was wearing sports shoes.

Re: The "dress smart" rule

Which pubs do and don't have a dress code? This is only for reference and just to know where to go.

Re: The "dress smart" rule

Actually, most pubs and clubs in Dublin don't have a dress code - only that you don't wear sportswear and shorts since that would be a bit
inapproriate. But, there are establishments which are strict on enforcing this: no proper attire, no entry - no ifs and buts about it.
