Best Types Of Bars For Bachelor Parties

Celebrating a bachelor party
Last year we provided you with our list of the most popular drinks at a bachelor party. Today, we’ll tell you all about the best types of bars for bachelor parties.

Now not everyone can have a wild and crazy night in Vegas or Bangkok for their bachelor party, but at least with this list of the best types of bars, you too can wake-up to a hangover but in the comfort of your own town.

Cigar Lounge
Enjoying a cigar at a cigar lounge
Nothing says bachelor party like starting the night off in a swanky cigar lounge. Nestle back in those overstuffed leather chairs, sip on some fine scotch and enjoy an expensive Cuban cigar. Enjoy it, because from here on out the debauchery starts.

Speakeasy
Secret door at a speakeasy
After you’ve got your fill of scotch and cigars it’s time to do it up 20s style. Get yourself into one of the many underground speakeasies that are popping up all around the country… that is of course if you know the password to get in. Fuel up with some boozy Mad Men style cocktails because the party is about to get crazy.

Strip Club
Strippers dancing for a guy at a strip club
No bachelor party is complete without a trip to the peelers. Order some rounds of expensive drinks, get a table dance or two and send the groom to be for a wild time in the champagne room. Once you’ve got your fill of the ‘neked ladies’ it is time to head out and party it up with some real girls. Oh, and if you are looking for a strip club, you may want to stay away from places with these stripper signs out front.

Dance Club
Patrons dancing at a dance club
Now that you are all fired up it’s time to get your ass out on the dance floor. Hit up a club and give your boy one last night of freedom to hit on all the beautiful single ladies. Tear up the night until closing time and work off some of that alcohol because the night isn’t over yet.

After Hours Club
After Hours bar in Bangkok, Thailand
After the clubs are closed it is time to take in an after hours club. Many legitimate after hours places are open until the wee hours of the morning. You can spend the night dancing off the last remaining effects of alcohol while sipping on some overpriced water, or you can find an after hours place that continues to serve alcohol, that is if you need a nightcap, or three. These can be hard to find, but believe me, every city has one. If you know someone that works in the industry they just may be able to steer you in the right direction.

The Best Backpacker Bars In Canada

Last year we discussed the top 19 party cities in all of Canada, but as you may very well know, one person’s party city is another person’s snoozefest.

A city can mean different things to different people based on their experiences. Whether you live in that city, were raised in that city, are tourists to that city or a backpacker just passing through, your wants, needs and expectations of a party may be different from everyone else.

Today we are going to focus on one particular group: backpackers. With youth hostels located in over 85 cities across Canada, the great white north is one destination with the backpacker’s travel budget in mind.

Not only can you find a cheap room at one of the many hostels across the country, but some of these hostels also have their very own bars! Cheap beers and cheap beds equal a fun time in my books.

So without further adieu, here are the best Backpacker Bars across Canada:

British Columbia
The Cambie Pub – Vancouver

When it comes to hostels, cheap, quality, and clean rooms are what is most important to many backpackers, and that is exactly what the The Cambie offers. What makes a stay at the Cambie even better is their onsite pub. Rated as the “#1 place to get wasted on the cheap” the Cambie really knows how cater to the backpacker’s budget. For more ideas on how to party on the cheap, check out our Miser’s Guide To Clubbing.

Alberta
The Storm Cellar – Banff

Billed as a True Traveler’s Pub, the Storm Cellar is the in-house bar for the HI-Banff Alpine Centre, one of the best ski and snowboarding hostels in the Rockies. The pub is a cozy place to unwind after a long day of hitting the slopes. Sip a few pints, play some darts, or take part in one of the many daily events, from Karaoke and trivia to live music from some great Canadian artists. If skiing is your thing, check out our list of the Best Ski Resorts To Party At.

Ontario
Mugshots – Ottawa

One of the more unique hostels in Canada is found in its capital city, Ottawa. The HI-Ottawa Jail hostel is located in the old Nicholas Street Gaol, which was built in 1862. Hostelling International purchased the building after it’s closure in 1972 and converted it into a hostel leaving much of the structure intact. Yes, that means you can spend a night in jail without the embarrassment of a having to call a friend or family member to bail you out. The jail’s chapel, which is typically only used in winter months, has been converted into the hostels on-site bar Mugshots. During the summer months the bar moves out into the courtyard, which was once the gallows and the place of the last public execution in Canada.

Québec
Tiki Bar Barbu – Sainte-Anne-des-Monts

Located 8 hours east of Montreal, right near the mouth of the St. Lawrence River is The Sea Shack, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts festive hostel. Ideally located to take advantage of all the outdoors has to offer, the Sea Shack hosts visitors all year round. Other than the amazing activities this hostel has to offer, from skiing to kayaking, what keeps people coming back for more are the famous parties hosted at the Tiki Bar Barbu. With live music acts from virtually every genre as well as many themed party nights, at the Tiki Bar Barbu the party never stops.

Best Ski Resorts To Party At

Apres Ski Bar

Whether you are a pro boarder, skier, or even experiencing your first time out, you probably already know that there is nothing better after a long day of sliding down the mountain through the powdery white stuff then hitting the chalet for a little après-ski. Yes we are talking about Colorado’s very own Vail. And although the drinking age in the US is not as liberal as it is in the rest of the world, you can still find some pretty good places to party after a long day of hitting the slopes. Here are our picks:

· The Red Lion
· Tap Room
· Agave
· Garfinkel’s
·

#1 – St. Anton, Austria

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

With a vertical drop of 1,507 metres and some of the deepest snow bases in the Alps, this western Austrian ski resort is our pick as the #1 ski resort to party at. The challenging terrain attracts many of the best skiers and boarders to this party village each year, and it is regarded as one of the best après-ski resorts in the World, and not just by us. If you ever get a chance to ride St. Anton, then make sure you save some energy for some of our favourite après-ski bars that this resort has to offer:

· Mooserwirt
· Krazy Kanguruh
· Bobo’s
· Kandahar

Top Hangover Cures

Here at the Barwhiz Blog we’ve given you plenty ideas on how to have a great night out. From the best party cities, to the best drink recipes, to even the best drinking games.

But after all that fun what about the next morning? Don’t think that we’re just going to leave you hangin’.

We’ve compiled a list of the very best in hangover cures to aid in the effects of an amazing night out, but before we can even begin to cure our hangovers, we should first take a look at what exactly a hangover is:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A hangover is the name given to the sickness following a night of heavy alcohol consumption. (In fact the name hangover itself was once called veisalgia, a Norwegian word for “uneasiness following debauchery”).

Symptoms of a hangover include physical effects such as headaches, nausea, diarrhea, sensitivity to light and sound, weakness, muscle cramps, fatigue, dehydration and an increase of heart rate and blood pressure. In extension to these physical symptoms, psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression and a poor sense of well-being may also be felt.

Now that we have a better understanding of what we’re up against, let’s look at some helpful fixes and then a few false remedies:

Water

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The most effective way to relieve the symptoms of a hangover is through the steady intake of water. For every drink you consumed the night before drink one glass of water the next day. If you want to lessen the effects before they happen, mix in a glass of water between every alcoholic drink you have the night of.

Sports Drink

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sports drinks can help you to replenish any lost electrolytes if you have become too dehydrated, but you have to be careful about which sports drinks you consume. Those that contain caffeine will actually be counterproductive as caffeine is a diuretic just like alcohol. If you have the option between water and a sports drink, it’s best to stick with the water.

Eggs

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It’s not the greasy spoon breakfast special that will help to cure your hangover, but just the eggs alone. This is because eggs contain a compound that actually helps to break down alcohol induced toxins in the body.

Fruit

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fresh fruit is packed full of all the essential vitamins and nutrients the body needs after a long night of slowly poisoning yourself. The nutrients in fruit will help to get your body of toxins, and one of the best fruits to do this is:

Bananas

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Since alcohol depletes the body of potassium, which in turn can cause many of your hangover symptoms, one of the best ways to replenish your body’s supply is with a banana.

Painkillers

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Although some painkillers, like aspirin and ibuprofen, may reduce the severity of a hangover headache they will in fact increase the intensity of any gastrointestinal pain you may be feeling. One painkiller, acetaminophen, should never be taken as a hangover cure as alcohol can actually increase its toxicity.

Hangover Myths:

Hair of the Dog

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This term “the hair of the dog that bit you” refers to drinking more alcohol to get rid of your hangover. In reality this tactic only prolongs your hangover and increases its power. Also it makes you an alcoholic.

Greasy Food

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

We all crave that greasy plate of ‘acon and beggs the morning after a night of partying, even though we know it will only make us feel worse. Ironically enough, greasy foods may actually help to lessen the effects of a hangover if they are first consumed before drinking.

Coffee

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As previously mentioned, caffeine is a diuretic, so although coffee may be our go to beverage in the morning, it in fact increases the effects of a hangover by dehydrating you further.

Burnt toast

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The idea behind this myth is that the carbon in the burnt toast can act like a filter and help to filter out the toxins left in your body after a night of binge drinking. It couldn’t be further from the truth.

Over the counter “hangover cures”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

If I have to explain to you that there is no such thing as a miracle in pill, then my friend, I’m afraid that you may still be drunk.

Best Party Cities In Australia

As you may already know, our winter (the northern hemisphere) is Australia’s summer, so there really is no time like the present to take a trip down under. Since we’ve already provided you with some of the best party cities all over the world, today we thought we would focus the land of Oz.

Don’t forget that you can also click on the city names to see listings and reviews of bars and clubs in that area. Feel free to stop by and review some venues yourself if you have the chance, or leave us your thoughts below.

#1 – Gold Coast

Gold Coast, Australia

From Surfers Paradise to Broadbeach, Australia’s Gold Coast is bespeckled with high-rise buildings, theme parks and neon lights, giving it the feeling of a city that could very well be the offspring of a boozed fuelled hook-up between Miami and Las Vegas. The somewhat glitzy and glamorous overtones mix well with the brash and tacky undertones. The city makes it work however as more than 2 million partiers visit the area every year. So if you find yourself unsure of where to begin your Australian journey, Queensland’s Gold Coast is the best party city to begin your adventure.

#2 – Sydney

Sydney City Night HDR

Although many people may assume that Sydney, Australia’s most populace city, is the country’s capital, they would be wrong – that honour is bestowed to Canberra, whose population by the way is just a little over 350 thousand inhabitants. Sydney with over 4.5 million people is the BarWhiz Blog’s 2nd spot for the best party city in Australia. If you are looking for some all night dance parties head over to Kings Cross. Or if the laid-back pub scene is more to our liking you can’t go wrong with The Rocks, and if live indie music is more your thing, Newtown and Surry Hills is the way to go.

#3 – Melbourne

Melbourne, Australia by night

Even though it is said that Melbournians know how to party harder than Sydneyites, Victoria’s capital city ranks in as our #3 pick. Packed with lounge bars and more live music that you can shake a drumstick at, Melbourne has many well-known party spots, such as St. Kilda. However it’s the not-so-well-known secret locations where you will really have the time of your life. Since the locals are a little more laid back here than in other cities in Australia you may get lucky and be invited to buy a round of beers at some of these secret party spots.

#4 – Brisbane

The big-little city of Brisbane is a perfect starter city for those partiers that come from smallish towns. It may have the big city look, but it is the small town community feel that really makes Brisbane a great spot to party. With trendy clubs and posh wine bars, not to mention a booming live music scene, Brisbane is home to some of the most down-to-earth partiers in all of Australia. Some of the best areas to visit include, Fortitude Valley, the West End and Kangaroo Point.

#5 – Cairns

USS Blue Ridge Sailors man the rails as the ship pulls into Cairns, Australia

Rounding out our top 5 is Cairns. This backpacker’s haven is not only a really good place to party – if you are young and don’t mind things a little down and dirty that is – but it is also cheap. How cheap you ask? Well if you’ve ever been backpacking you know how frugal you have to be with your budget and Cairns answers that need with such specials as 5 drinks for $12! Some of the great party stops in include, the Woolshed, PJ O’Brien’s, Shenanigans, and of course Gilligan’s.

BONUS – XXXX Island
Strawberries and Cream

Not really a city, or destination for that matter, but XXXX Island is a real beer drinkers’ paradise. Situated on the southern Great Barrier Reef, this beer oasis, or beerasis to coin a term, is the idea of one Beer Company’s perfect getaway. Queensland’s favourite beer, XXXX Gold, has created this getaway as a thank you to their loyal customers, and only about 1000 people get to visit the island each year. Since the only way to get there is to win, when you are partying it up in the BarWhiz Blog’s Top 5 Australian Party Cities, make sure to pick yourself up a case or two of XXXX Gold. You’re allowed to bring three mates with you, so if you win don’t forget to send us an invite.

London – Heaven

One of London’s oldest gay clubs, Heaven, has been going strong since the late 70s. You’d think with its age that it wouldn’t attract the new generation, but it is the complete opposite. With is spectacular line-up of DJs, Heaven blasts the latest house beats until the wee hours of the morning.

Mexico City – Club Living

This multilevel club is hosted inside an old church, and with the GoGo dancers, dance floors, chill out rooms and in-house cantina it is hard to imagine Mexico City’s top gay club, Club Living, was once a place of worship.

Paris – Le Raidd

Toronto – Woody’s

Toronto Canada’s very own Woody’s is Toronto’s oldest gay bar. Celebrating over 20 years in existence, this happening place is not a typical club – which is very noticeable right away by the lack of a dance floor – but what they lack in club atmosphere they make up in other more creative ways. From special event nights, such as Drag Shows to contest like the Best Chest contest, your attention will be occupied to the point where you forget that you even want to dance.

Lanzarote Nightlife

Lanzarote holidays are not famous for its nightlife, as it is smaller and a bit quieter than some of the larger Canary Islands, however you will still find enough going on to party until dawn. There are three main resorts in Lanzarote to head for if you are looking to experience the best that Lanzarote has to offer in the way of clubs, bars and entertainment – Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.

Costa Teguise

640px-Costa_Teguise-Playa_del_Jablillo

Bars – Wander down the Avenida de Jabillo, where you will find most of the bars and clubs in the resorts. There is a wide range here, from Irish bars to typical Spanish bars that will have live salsa music. There are also some great restaurants here so you can start the night off in style – choose from traditional tapas to Chinese or Indian – you will find something to suit every taste here.

Clubs – Some of the most popular clubs in the resort include the lighthouse bar, which is open until 2am and has live music every night – find it in the Pueblo Marinero. You can find everything from sports bars to jazz clubs here, and many of the hotels have lively entertainment programmes that are open to non-residents too.

Where to Stay – The 4* Blue Sea Costa Teguise Gardens is just 800m from the beach in Costa Teguise and is a short walk from the centre of the resort.

Puerto del Carmen

640px-PuertodelcarmenBeach

Bars – The Centro Atlantico is the main area for nightlife in the resort where you will find everything from live music, DJ’s and discos, to chilled out cocktail bars. The Bodhran is one of the busiest bars – a traditional Irish bar with live music and sports.

Clubs – There are a number of large clubs here, the Discoteca RUMM in the Old Town Harbour is one of the most popular, where you can dance until the sun comes up to all the songs you will recognise from home. Ceasars is the place to go for serious clubbing.

Where to Stay – The 3* Hotel Blue Sea Los Fiscos is just 500m from the main bars and clubs – perfect for a clubbing holiday. The beach is only 900m for those mornings where you just want to sleep off the night before in the sunshine.

Playa Blanca

Playa_Blanca_Town_Promenade_and_Beach_01

Bars – The nightlife in Playa Blanca is slightly more spread out than the other resorts, but the Marina Rubicon is always a good bet for a sun downer whilst enjoying the views of the stunning yachts moored here, Café del Mar is one of the most popular bars here, as well as the various jazz lounges.

Clubs – Punto Limones is the area where you will find the busiest bars that are open the latest – opposite the main shopping centre it is easy to find and you can watch the sun come up across the ferry port opposite when the clubs shut.

Where to Stay – The 4* Hotel Blue Sea Corbeta is right in the action of Playa Blanca, but far enough away to escape the noise of people coming home in the early hours. This hotel has 5 swimming pools for a refreshing dip the next day.
