Top 10 Most Unique Bar Concepts

Here at the BarWhiz Blog we’ve traveled the world and came up with a list of the top 21 bars from around the world. Along the way we saw the wackiest bar stools and the weirdest restrooms. Today we would like to share with you the top 10 most unique bar concepts:

#1. Steampunk Bar

The Edison - the bar

The Edison in Los Angeles is styled after the era of science and invention. It seems to be stuck somewhere between past present and future with vintage styled burlesque shows playing on a regular basis.

#2. Hospital Concept Bar

Clinic is a hospital themed bar in Singapore that exhibits wheelchairs as seats, stainless steel hospital code dishware and IV bags, test tubes and other medical paraphernalia to use as dinking devices.

#3. Frozen Bars

Ice bars have been popping up all over the world in such countries as Canada, USA, Tokyo, London and even Africa. The concept is simple enough everything is made from ice. The chairs are ice, the walls are ice, the bar is ice and yes, even the glassware is ice. Most ice bars do also include a free parka upon entry.

#4. The Speakeasy

Ahhh the speakeasy, if it weren’t for these secret bars installed during prohibition we might not have made it through. The concept behind this bar is not to know about it. Most speakeasies are unmarked and may even require a few knocks in the right places – difficult to find but definitely worth the effort.

#5. Model Train Bar

The Czech Republic boasts a tavern where a train runs through the bar carrying some precious cargo. The great thing about this train, is every car is the bar car!

#6. Biochemical Alien Bar

You might not find Ripley here anytime soon, but the H.R. Giger Alien themed bar in Switzerland is out of this world.

Y’aaaaar! Smuggler’s Cove in San Francisco is a bar that’s made to look like a pirate ship. As for what their specialties are, the pride themselves on a vast selection of rum of course.

#8. Upside-down Bar

Why are you standing on your head? Oh wait this optical illusion can be found at Madame Claude’s in Berlin. It’s been decorated to look like everyone’s partying upside down by gluing and nailing everything to the ceiling.

#9. Under the Sea Bar

Those are not televisions beside the tables. Our planet does in fact have an underwater bar. The Red Sea Star bar in Israel has a dining room under the Red Sea offering guests a rare view of the depths.

#10. In A Tree Bar

Talk about the best tree fort ever, the Sunland pub in South Africa yields one of the most unique bar concepts in the world. The bar and wine cellar are found in a hollowed out, 6000 year old baobab tree.

Top 19 Party Cities In Canada

At the beginning of the year we provided you with not only the Top 18 Party Cities In Europe, but we also listed the Top 21 Party Cities In The USA.

Today we’re looking at the best party cities in the Canada. Since the drinking age for the majority of Canadian cities is 19 years of age, in the province of Quebec it is 18, we’ve decided to focus on the top 19 party cities.

#1 Montreal, Quebec

The number one party destination is, with out a doubt, Montreal. With the legal drinking age being only 18 and the bars and clubs serving until 3am, the party never stops in this beautiful city. On weekends there are also many after-hours clubs where the dancing lasts until dawn. Even the residents of the biggest and most beautiful cities in Canada head to Montreal to party.

#2 Toronto, Ontario

The largest city in Canada, Toronto, is also one of the best party cities the country has to offer. With its eclectic mix of cultures and neighbourhoods, Toronto also has a vast array of party places. From an immense and thriving live music scene to electronic clubs that go to the early hours of the morning, Toronto is one city where you wont have to search too hard, or too long, for a party.

#3 Vancouver, British Columbia

Although the Vancouver lifestyle is suited to the more casual establishments, bars and pubs, there is still a pretty good club scene here. But even in the bars and pubs, there is always a party. Some of the best areas to party in Vancouver are Yaletown, Gastown and of course, Granville Street and Downtown.

#4 Halifax, Nova Scotia

In Halifax the festival season never seems to end, and with their influx of live music, and plenty of bars and nightclubs to choose from, this small maritime town is one of the best party cities in Canada.

#5 Ottawa, Ontario

The capital city of Canada may be smaller than the other major cities on this list, but this town knows how to party just as hard. From live music to electronic dance clubs that are open until the wee hours of the morning, Ottawa has some of the best partying spots, all within a few blocks of each other. It is an easy city to get around at night and the close proximity to practically everything makes bar hopping a breeze. Best of all, when the bars close at 2am in Ottawa the party doesn’t have to end. Just a short jaunt across the river is Quebec, where the bars are open until 3am.

The jewel of Quebec is without a doubt its capital city, Quebec City, or Quebec as the locals refer to it. Over looking the St. Lawrence River, this Old World European styled city is much more than meets the eye. It is also an incredible party town. For the best nightlife head on over to Grande-Allée Street or Boulevard Laurier.

#7 Sudbury, Ontario

Known for its nickel, both the mining operations and the giant nickel that adorns the city, this small Ontario town is an oasis of hipster hangouts, trendy dive bars and all night dance clubs. So whether it is a stop-over for a longer drive to one of our other party cities, or a destination in itself, Sudbury has earned its place in the top 19 party cities in Canada.

With it’s thriving music scene, and such events as the Winnipeg Folk Festival, this city, nestled in the heart of the prairies, is not only a great place to stop on your way West or East, but it is also a party destination in itself.

#13 St John’s, Newfoundland

With its steep roads adorned with multi coloured homes that end in a harbour, St. John’s has been described as a miniature San Francisco. This capital city may have the look of an American metropolis, but it definitely doesn’t have the attitude. Newfoundlanders are a welcoming bunch that love to party. So whether you are throwing back a few pints at one of the many George Street pubs, or have been invited to a kitchen party, this maritime city is one hell of a place to party.

This capital city may look like a quaint sleepy little village by day, with its well-maintained flowerbeds and Georgian and Victorian homes, but come nightfall, when the bars and clubs open their doors, it is another story altogether. With over 50 bars, lounges, and nightclubs, and new ones opening all the time, you won’t have any trouble finding a place to party.

#17 Hamilton, Ontario

Some may refer to Hamilton as, the armpit of Canada for it’s unappealing smell – if you have ever been, you know what I mean – but this hard-working steel town still knows how to party. With students from McMaster University and Mohawk College partying it up each and every night, there is a little something for everyone, from the club district to Hess Village you are bound to find your party destination.

#18 Kingston, Ontario

Although Kingston may be a rest stop for those travelling between Toronto and Montreal, and vice versa, those who do not stay for the party are definitely missing out. During the school year Kingston is jammed packed with university students attending Queen’s University, who set out each weekend to party it up in the many bars, pubs and clubs sprinkled throughout the city. In the summer, one of the best music festivals in Canada, the Wolfe Island Music Festival, which sadly did not make our Top 12 ‘Must Attend’ Music Festivals Of 2012, is just a short ferry ride away.

Featuring everything from dive bars to strip clubs and everything in between, Niagara Falls is a miniature Vegas.
